How to Measure Your Dog for Clothing

Build a reliable fit record with chest girth, back length and neck circumference, then compare it with each garment’s intended shape.

Prepare a natural stance

Ask your dog to stand naturally and use a soft tailoring tape. Keep the tape close to the body without pulling it tight.

  • Measure while standing
  • Allow comfortable movement
  • Note coat volume for long-haired dogs

Record three core measurements

Measure the widest part of the chest just behind the front legs, the back from the base of the neck to just before the tail, and the neck where a collar normally sits.

Use body measurements first and weight only as a supporting reference when comparing a product size chart.

  • Chest girth
  • Back length
  • Neck circumference

Check the intended silhouette

Capes, shirts and dresses cover the body differently, so one pet may not wear the same size in every shape. Compare your notes with the size and fit guidance on the exact product page.

Measure again after growth, seasonal coat changes or a change in body condition.
